Yam Kumari was born into a farming the Syangia district of Nepal. She was married at 25, but not longer after her husband was diagnosed and subsequently died with bone cancer, being unable to pay for health care.
After his death Yam Kumari cared for her 2 sons and saw them complete their school education. Six years ago she walked past the WSDO offices, popping her head in to enquire about work. She was offered the opportunity to learn to weave and she continues to do so today, thanking WSDO for providing access to a savings scheme that has enabled her to build a new house for her and her grown-up sons.
